This past November, I was a dependent woman. And not on any guy, but on none other than Tinder. Through many dates and many men, I’ve come to the conclusion that dating apps can be extremely limiting (especially when all of your friends are using them, too). In my experience (and you know I loved online dating at one point), after a while, apps can hold you back. My friends and I would go out in the city and not entertain any conversations with men, because, for all we knew, they were creeps. And why talk to creeps, when we could (hopefully) vet the endless supply of men waiting right on our cell phones (before we even had to deal with looking them in the eye)? I know a few of my friends that have found love on BBW Dating Sites but not all of us have been so lucky. Due to the consistent advancements in technology, whether it be a new app or a new algorithm to test people’s compatibility, there are always new options popping up out there though, which tend to open up the market, sometimes for the better and sometimes maybe not if you see the same people on there – sites like JustKiss can be used as an example. Who knew it would be so hard to find your soul mate?!
Craigslist is a strange place, folks, and not just because the owner of the perfect vintage bar cart you’ve been stalking won’t answer your 3rd email. In case you didn’t know, there should be some snow on the ground right now (but as I’m writing this at 11pm on Monday night, it’s not looking very promising). And during that snow, you may be stuck in your apartment, depending on the kindness of Instacart and Grubhub to get you through the day. But some people are taking a proactive approach to their snowed in status, and reaching out for a companion from the only reliable source they know: Craigslist.
After seeing this Business Insider article titled “New Yorkers Are Flocking To Craigslist To Find ‘Blizzard Boyfriends’ And Girlfriends,” I decided to take a peek at what Philadelphians were looking for last evening. And here’s what we got:
Happy Tuesday! I truly have not been properly dealing with the cold this month, so the below updates will sure be a whole lot of digital, and for that, I am sorry. 😉 In case you haven’t seen it yet – something pretty darn cool happened to me this month: I was featured on CBSPhilly! I think Kristina did a great job summing up the blog and I am so grateful to be featured. So with that . . . on to the rest of the updates on this Philly girl’s winter life!
Since my last declaration of happiness one year ago today, life has still been pretty lovely (at least from the way I see it). This year, I started a new job. I began working out again and really loving my body even more. I started reading (well, listening to) books again, something that had been sincerely missing from my life. I learned a lot about myself through dating, and more recently, by deleting all of those dating apps I had become sliiiightly dependent on. I learned how important it is to empower other women. And I grew with my friends and family, celebrating occasions that were worth celebrating and helping each other through tough times and mind boggles to spare.
Christmas Eve is one of my favorite days of the year. I’m spending the holidays at my parents’ house in South Jersey. I’ve been here for less than 24 hours and I’ve already ate some delicious meals cooked by my mama, stopped at my favorite thrift store, annnnd done four loads of laundry. Tonight, we’re hosting a Christmas Eve get-together and I am still in need of an outfit decision . . . time is ticking.
My sister’s puppy, Ellie, is pretty much my BFF normally, but not when we were getting her into this sweater. We recreated last year’s photo shoot (and risked losing our fingers/hands) to wish you all a VERY Merry Christmas. Enjoy your week! xx
We are so lucky to live in such a great city filled with fabulous restaurants, talented chefs, and amazing food. But when it seems like you’ll never run out of places to eat, how can you prioritize where to stop first? Well (if the menu doesn’t get you first) when a restaurant starts to win awards (and lots of them), you might be on the right track.
There was once a time in my life (or many, many times) when I despised working out. Doing things I was not good at (ie: running) or that became boring (basically running again) made exercising way less than enjoyable to me. After many weeks of not feeling as fabulous/healthy as I thought I could, I needed to find something new . . . something that was fun, held me accountable, and was actually attainable with my busy schedule.
I started getting highlights in my hair when I was in middle school. I kept getting highlights until I was so blonde by the end of college, that it was out of control. After graduating, I decided to try and get these locks back to my natural color, only to eventually become bored again. My quest to spice up my hair led me to going ginger (but more maroon/burgundy/auburn . . . I just like saying ginger), and one place has been my go-to Philly salon of choice in order to correctly apply this strategic color choice. And now, you get to try them too.
Happy Tuesday, ladies! Let’s cut to the chase: you know I love the Eagles. Even though our Birds gave a bit of a disappointing performance against the Seahawks last weekend, we’re still 9-4 (and things are gonna be OK). If you believe, like I do, that one of the best ways to show support for our team is in green and white gear (with clever slogans, of course), today’s giveaway is for you.
IT’S. GIVEAWAY. TIME. You guys don’t even know – I love running these giveaways for you so much, I have been looking forward to this post for months. In case you’re new (welcome!), I’ve started a little tradition here on the blog: a week of giveaways featuring some of my favorite Philly things in honor of this little blog’s birthday. So, giveaway week is back, and you are going to loooove these prizes.
All giveaways will be run for one week each on a Rafflecopter widget. If you have any questions about how to enter, please get in touch. A quick note about entries: You can enter as many giveaways and with as many ways as you’d like. If you took my reader survey last week, you’ll still need to enter using the widget below (since I don’t know if you would love the prize on Day 4 and hate the prize on Day 2 – I want to make sure you get entered for the prize you’re interested in!). I’ll be revealing a new prize every day, now through Friday . . . so, on to the first one!
