You guys! If you haven’t been to the Philly Zoo since you were 6 or 8 or even 15, it’s time to get back there. On top of the amazing new upgrades the zoo has made over the past few years, there is one particularly important new addition to the Philadelphia region . . . a very small, very furry, very adorable baby gorilla.
I am very lucky that my family lives relatively close to Philly, making their trips frequent (and welcomed). Included in those trips are our aptly titled “Girls Weekends,” where my mom, sister, sister’s puppy Ellie, and I (sorry, dad!) romp around the city eating, shopping, and laughing. Thanks to one of my Christmas gifts to my mom & sis (gift cards – not my most creative year), we picked one of the the season’s first warm weather weekends and had a lovely time. So, with Mother’s Day quickly approaching, I wanted to share the deets of what I think was a pretty perfect Mother Daughter Day in Philadelphia.
Mother’s Day has always been a tough holiday for me to shop for. While my mom is wonderful and appreciative of everything my sister and I get her, I don’t really care for those cheesy knick knacks from the card store, and I can only buy so many pairs of pretty earrings before it becomes standard.
The Rittenhouse Hotel (210 West Rittenhouse Square) reached out to me and asked if I would like to come in and experience the Mary Cassatt Tea Room. Not even knowing such a place existed in my neighborhood, I immediately said yes and knew the perfect person I should bring along: my mother.
