Summer has been glorious so far; walking around during the 8:00 pm hour still surrounded by light is something I’ll never take for granted. Besides my California trip (more on that soon!), the two back-to-back sore throat bugs I’ve been hit with (speaking of: the new Jefferson Urgent Care – so quick!), I’ve been doing my fair share of fun things in the city, and I thought it was time to update you. I also realized I missed a spring update in my “Philly Girl Life” little series, so you guys are long overdue to hear some of my ramblings.
The Eats
This month, I’ve been eating (trust: my bodycon dresses knew this before you did). I visited Cheu Noodle Bar (255 South 10th Street) for the first time, and loved the atmosphere and the menu. I also tried Aldine (1901 Chestnut Street), and was literally so impressed with everything I tried. I promise you I have dreamt of the corn custard & cheese curd dish several times since. NExt on the list was the new Dos Tacos (120 South 15th Street), which sort of made me wish it was called “Tres Tacos” so I could have more of the Frenchman number. Earlier this week, I visited, SouthGate (1801 Lombard Street), my beloved Tangier’s replacement, during their “soft opening.” The place was transformed (seriously, I want my kitchen to look like the inside of SouthGate), the wings were out of control, and if the bar ends up staying open just a bit later once they’re running strong, I’ll be very happy.
The Culture
My work hosted a giveaway for a private tour of the Philadelphia Museum of Art‘s (2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway) new exhibit, Discovering the Impressionists: Paul Durand-Ruel and the New Painting. Paul Durand-Ruel was an art dealer, who would basically buy out unknown (and misunderstood) artists’ collections and show their work to modern art lovers. He created the careers of many, many game-changing artists, including Monet, Renior, and Degas. I was in serious awe of how beautiful everything was. The show runs through September 13th – get over there, kids.
The Things I Kinda Can’t Wait For
I have a few things coming up I’m really excited about, like the Mike Posner concert tomorrow night at Milkboy (1100 Chestnut Street), checking out Nightscape at Longwood Gardens (Kennett Square, PA), complete with live music and a beer garden, finally getting to put my Glee Pandora station favorites to the live test with a production of Spring Awakening, trying a new spot during Center City District Restaurant Week, and making it to a Science After Hours event (for once)!
And now I will go back to the endless white dress shopping game that is DINER EN BLANC PREP. I’m really struggling this year, and, at present, I’ve ordered no less than 12 dresses, all of which have been sent back. Let me know if you snagged some tickets this year, I’d love to say hi! xx
