December is a big month for this blog. Every December, I celebrate a Her Philly birthday, but this year, it’s a big one: Five. Years. Five years of sharing my love for this city, and getting so much of it back from all of you, who love it just as much. Five years of adventures and experiences and friendships formed and dates documented. In all the ways I can’t believe it’s been five years, at the same time, it feels like it’s always been a part of me.
Lately, Instagram has been my primary way of keeping in touch with you guys, especially thanks to third party direct messaging applications such as ig dm for my desktop to allow me to use my keyboard! I even typed this up to originally be an Instagram caption. But then, I decided to elaborate over here, thank goodness. Anyway, I know there are people who are able to do it all: work full time, keep their home clean (perhaps they take the help of firms that can offer cleaning services, but that is okay), get in their exercise, see their friends & family, AND do something they’re passionate about, which for me, is Her Philly. And let me tell you, I give those people SO. MUCH. credit. But I’ve tried, man, and I just can’t get it all done.
I know I miss out on really cool opportunities because I just can’t keep up with my email. I know, as I get older, the amount I’m able to function without normal hours of sleep a night is less & less (aka, now). But for this blog, celebrating its 5th DOB, to stay as something I love, I can’t allow it to become a burden.
Yes, I’ve come to you with a similar message before, and at this point, you guys are probably like, alright already lady, we get it. But I just can’t quit this thing yet. This blog has allowed me to meet women I now consider great, great friends. It’s given me the opportunity to swing on a trapeze on Broad Street, fly a Game of Thrones dragon on the side of Eastern State Penitentiary, and even experience a much needed winter getaway to to Mexico. I’ve learned to be okay attending things by myself, how to be confident in my own body, and that being genuine always wins in the end.
So to close, I just wanted to say, during this 5 year anniversary month: I am so, so lucky. Whether you’re a newbie or have been in the fam for awhile, thank you for going on this adventure with me. And for those ladies who have been with me pretty much since the beginning, thank you for sticking by me over these past five years. They’ve been some real, real good ones. ??
Love you all. xx
