The Birds are baaaack, baby! Even if you’re not a huge football fan, I’m sure that pretty much every Philadelphia human can appreciate the real and utter joy this city has experienced over the last year. It’s been so. much. fun. I can assume that many people have been watching on the edge of their seats and placed a bet or two online by looking at some of the best iowa sportsbook apps as well as others, so they can win a little bit of money along the way.
One of the best parts of Eagles season for me is all of the gatherings to watch the games. Whether it’s a few friends watching on the couch, making a v risky stop at a Center City sports bar (this is quite rare for me ever since a waitress at Fox & Hound spilled piping hot cheese sauce on my new Jason Kelce jersey a few years back), at home in South Jersey with my Pops, or, of course, tailgating down at the Linc, just being together and sharing in the love of our Birds is the reason for the szn.
When we normally do a friends football gathering, most of the time, it’s held at my friend Kelly’s South Philly home. In our group of friends, everyone typically brings a food item (most of my buds are serious chefs and bake/cook, but I am usually a buyer myself), and then we sit on the couch, drink and eat, cheer for our team, and go up for seconds, thirds, etc. It’s a nice life.
My dream football party foods involve chips and many dips, pigs in a blanket, some type of potato dish just to keep the carbs coming, pizza (this is me we’re talking about), and something sweet. To enjoy the ~sweet~ taste of victory this season, the NFL is giving fans across the country the ability to order the most official looking cakes there are: officially licensed NFL ones!
Officially licensed NFL cakes (and cupcakes, obviously) are now available for purchase at over 100 bakeries in and around the city. You can grab one at Shoprite, Acme, or Fresh Grocer, or, from some local South Philly and Italian Market family-owned bakeries. I picked my two (!!!!!) cakes up from Tiffany’s Bakery (1001 Market Street) and was SO impressed. They were a hit at my Eagles party – so pretty, so delicious, and so thic(c)k – and I know you’d be the belle of the ball if you showed up to any football gathering with one of these bad boys.
You can find your local bakery that uses DecoPac products online and place your orders for the upcoming season over the phone. If you are a baker and want to use some of the officially licensed NFL cake toppers yourself (you go girl), Amazon has an awesome selection of Philly sports accessories.
Now it’s time to get ready for kickoff (I’ll be doing this at the Shawn Mendes concert – yessssss plz.) The game starts at 8:20 tonight. Say it with me now: let’s go Birds!
