My first trip to LBI with Fearless Restaurants

I had never been to Long Beach Island (or LBI, as we will henceforth be referring to this pretty island of beach towns) before. As you may remember, I grew up at another beach, so we didn’t really venture to other shore towns when I was younger (I have since started to expand my locales, including exploring North Wildwood at The Shore House last summer).

Trip to LBI

You probably know Fearless Restaurants, they’re a restaurant group with spots in Philly (Moshulu, Louie Louie, and White Dog Cafe), the Main Line (Autograph Brasserie and the other White Dog locations), and of course, on LBI! They invited some ~influencers~ to check out what the summer life is like at their beachy home, and I was thrilled to see what they had in store!

30 Philadelphia things I love (for my 30th birthday)

I turn 30 today. And in honor of all of the love Philadelphia has brought me during my adult years, I wanted to share a few things I love about Philly, too. I kept this list in the same order as I jotted them down, and I am not kidding, I did a quick count once as I was about midway through, and then landed exactly on 30 before I numbered them. Here’s hoping that is a sign that my 30th year will line up just as perfectly. 🙂

Pizzeria Beddia 2: What to Know

The za is back in town, folks! I was lucky enough to be bopping on Instagram when @pizzacamp posted that his newest shop, Pizzeria Beddia 2 (1313 North Lee Street), was open and accepting reservations. I created a Resy account real quick and snagged a reservation for 6 that finally arrived this past week.

Tonight’s Dinner Plans (for a Good Cause!)

Side note: Hi. How are ya? I’d like to start off with a quick story, that I’ve been getting inspired to blog again lately, decided this would be my post in question, sat down to write it Monday night, logged into HP, and just updated a plug in or two as one does, and my site crashed. An extremely kind sir at my office helped me bring it back up this week, and here we are, and I’ve given you no notice to get out and make your plans for today. However, I know some of you are a spontaneous bunch, and I thought this event was still important enough to share, so here we go.

I know many of you are just like me, and finding any good reason to go out to eat at one of Philly’s incredible restaurants is a welcomed treat.

Philly PR Girl recently invited me to a preview of this year’s Dining Out For Life event, benefitting local HIV/AIDS service organizations, and I was truthfully so surprised everyone I knew wasn’t participating in this.

My #1 Dating Struggle Right Now

In dating in Philly over the years, I’ve run into my fair share of things that have shut down my prospective relationships. From an unhealthy obsession with cats, to a very severe lack of common interests, to, of course, the occasional UDP (if you know, you know), sometimes matches just aren’t meant to be. But lately, the issue that seems to be plaguing my budding romances most stems directly from be me being confident about what I’m looking for, and that, for the most part, making the guy run the other way. And this all manifests itself in the planning. of. freaking. dates.Dating in Philly Struggles

Sprouts Philadelphia is Now Open! A Look Inside the Store (+ a Giveaway!)

This post is part of a partnership with Sprouts Farmers Market. Thank you for supporting the brands that help make Her Philly possible!

Great news, Philly! Sprouts (1000 South Broad Street) is now officially open! In case you missed my previous posts, I’ve shared the basics of what Sprouts is and the best ways to save money there. And since I’m all about that grocery store life, I’ve been loving learning about the new store.

I stopped by Philly’s new location Tuesday night to take a little tour while their Friends & Family soft opening was in full force. Despite the store being packed on their first night on the job, all of the employees were so helpful and sweet.

The building is huge, built in an old train shed. The natural light shining through from the ceiling complements the store throughout the day – they’re open from 7am-10pm daily.

My Quest for the Best Dark Curvy Jeans

I go through shifts in how I dress based on trends, comfort, and how I’m feeling about my body at the time. But these shifts can last for quite a bit, enough that I find myself gravitating towards certain styles and completely away from entire trends I used to love and have filled my closet with (jumpsuits, hello?!), until I’m wearing the same 5 things over and over and need some variety in my life.

And lately, we’re talking a year or so, I’ve been noticing this: I’m wearing less of my dress and skirt collection and piling. on. the. denim. So, I obviously needed a few new pairs.

Shopping Like a Pro at Sprouts

This post is part of a partnership with Sprouts Farmers Market. Thank you for supporting the brands that help make Her Philly possible!

Last week, I told you that Sprouts was coming to Philadelphia (Broad & Washington, to be exact!). And from your comments and messages, I know some of you have been privileged to have grown up or moved from an area with a Sprouts (and you were all very, very excited).

But for the rest of us, learning the shopping intricacies, coupon cadence, and best house brand products is a tough world to navigate at a new grocery store. There are entire. blogs. dedicated to cult supermarket shopping! So this week, with the opening of Sprouts Philadelphia a mere one week away, I’m sharing the things you must know as a new Sprouts shopper.

Took a little break from the city 🌆 & headed do Took a little break from the city 🌆 & headed down the shore this week. 🛣⁣
⁣
Jim has been in in Atlanta for a *3 week* 😅 work training. After isolating for two weeks myself, I relocated down to my parents’ & sister’s houses to let Jim quarantine when he gets back, and for a little more space for me. 🌳⁣
⁣
I have been thankful for the fresh air & (private!) outdoor spaces for workouts & morning coffee. ☕️ After months apart, it’s nice to be spending some time with my family. 🖤⁣
⁣
How have you guys been spending your first week of summer? ☀️⁣

I’ve been having really mixed feelings about sta I’ve been having really mixed feelings about starting to post anything unrelated to Black Lives Matter again. ⁣
⁣
I know people have been unmuting themselves this week. And I find myself conflicted, because while I don’t really fault them for getting back to posting and still (hopefully) keeping up their anti-racism work, some of the stories and posts I’ve been seeing have really, really angered me. ⁣
⁣
These past few weeks, while I do feel like I have been waking up, have also been extremely painful. I am capital P Privileged. I have Black friends, colleagues, acquaintances. I never talked to them about race. I never pressed through the challenging conversations with people close to me. I never knew my role in this fight, or took responsibility enough to ask what it could be. ⁣
⁣
I have been having many, many, daily conversations about racism. With my family, my friends, with Jim, and *a lot* with coworkers. Prior to George Floyd’s death, I would have never talked about race at work. Let alone put things out there on Zoom calls and settle into the uncomfortableness. But I’m working on getting comfortable with the uncomfortable. ⁣
⁣
I keep seeing this quote from Sonia Gupta:⁣
⁣
“Unlearning white supremacy isn't Instagrammable. It's deeply personal, existential, and difficult work. It often feels horrible. It will make you cry. You might become depressed. It can be very lonely and isolating. It will shatter your ego and your belief system.⁣
⁣
Do it anyway.” ⁣
⁣
To use some steps from @theoptin workshop I participated in tonight (& that brought me to tears), I am motivated to make a personal change, and I have hope that our world can end white supremacy. I need to make my personal work a consistent part of my life. So I know, even though the getting back into posting things outside of BLM has been very jarring for me, I do believe it’s inevitably how I’m going to make this change long term. ⁣
⁣
Please continue to call me out, I’m learning. I’ve been very thankful for those who have kindly offered me alternatives to some of my white saviorism ideas. Community is important right now (another takeaway from @theoptin), so I’m thankful I have you. Talk to you soon. xx
