My First Time Getting Threaded {Anjuthreads Visit}

My initial thought when I first heard of “threading” (and saw it in the middle of the mall) was: what. is. this. sorcery? Being of Italian descent, I have been getting waxed since high school and truly do not feel my face is looking its best unless my brows are in pristine condition. I never thought I would give threading a try until I moved to Philly and heard of this fun little salon . . .
Anjuthreads Philadelphia // Her PhillyAnjuthreads (1126 Walnut Street) is a threading salon that opened in 2008. The team moved to their gorgeous (and spotless) Walnut Street location in 2010 and have been threading away ever since! The salon offers several services, for both men and women, but their standard eyebrow threading price is $13. Anju and her team invited me in to try some of their services and I was excited/nervous to finally give threading a try!
Anjuthreads price list Philadelphia // Her PhillyThreading is different from other hair removal techniques, mainly because it is safer. Unlike waxing, it is very natural and does not damage the skin, and, unlike tweezing, threading can create perfectly arched lines in a few minutes. The threader removes the hairs by trapping them in the thread and pulling them out from the root. If this sounds scary, don’t worry, I have some tips to make your first time simple.Anjuthreads toner bar // Her PhillyTo start: Just like any hair removal, the first time will hurt. My eyes were watering, big time. While the Anjuthreads studio is a beautiful and serene space, threading is not meant to be a relaxing process. Men: do you see the things we do for you? Take a deep breath & know it will get easier over time, just like waxing has become for me (but not tweezing – tweezing never, ever gets any less painful).

If you have sensitive skin, I would recommend not wearing make-up on your trip to the salon. My make-up was all over the place after the threading (think of all that thread rolling over your skin!) and I did slightly break out afterwards. Anju told me this is not common at all (Story of my life: I am constantly the exception to the rule.), but for someone with skin concerns like me, it’s best to let your threader know so they can suggest a stronger toner afterwards. Speaking of, make sure to take advantage of the toner bar – they have some great products!

When a hair is poking through the skin, the thread can grab it. So if you absolutely hate the thought of plucking out all of those baby hairs one by one, Anju & her team can pull them right out in about 5 minutes. Threading lasts two weeks to one month, depending on the client. Anju of Anjuthreads and Emily Tharp of Her PhillyIn addition to the great treatments and beautiful salon space, I really enjoyed meeting Anju and her team. They are all very talented, and Anju is a true small business owner. I was really excited to learn more about why she started her salon and the things she loves about Philadelphia. Stop by Anjuthreads & support a local business – and let me know what you think!

Ready to see the best thing I couldn’t wait to s Ready to see the best thing I couldn’t wait to share while I was taking an insta break? Swipe!

We adopted a puppy!!! 🖤 Meet Putter. He was born in January in Mississippi, and brought to PA with his mom & siblings for adoption by @tlcrescuepa.

I had been applying to rescue a pup for almost a year, so I am so thankful to @tlcrescuepa for giving us a shot. We brought Putter home 4/26/22. 🥰

Putter is fitting into our family so well, and we are loving watching him grow and learn new things. Jim & I are taking him to puppy class every Saturday and we are excited to learn more ourselves!

I could spam you with a million pictures but I created an Insta for the baby so I don’t go overboard here. 😂 You can follow @putterthepuppy to see more of our small boy. 🥹
The last night of @linnytharp’s Philly bachelore The last night of @linnytharp’s Philly bachelorette was such a joy it deserves its own post. 🚃

I have talked about the @foundingfootsteps tours for years. The owner, Tim, is such an asset to the Philly community, and I was excited to support his company for our ladies night out. 💃🏻

I booked us the Beer & Bands trolley tour. We (the 8 of us and 3 sweet younger gals) got picked up at Betsy Ross house with our BYO @highnoonsunsips and singing voices ready. 🎶

The trolley comes equipped with musicians and an amazing driver (shoutout Koser, Nate & Justin!) and takes you on a drive throughout the city, while the musicians play Britney Spears, BSB, & other assorted covers. Though we did make several suggestions to add more Taylor songs into rotation. 😉

The windows are open and we were loudly singing along, so early on, in our drunken happiness, we decided to start waving to people out the window. Once we started getting a few waves back, it became the sole focus of the night, singing and seeing how many waves we could secure (it was a 95% wave-back rate).

We laughed and sang and just had the most fun tour ever. The tour also stops at a brewery or two (hence that part of the name), we stopped at @victorytaproom_phl on ours, but we were mostly happy to be waving on the trolley. 😂

I can’t recommend @foundingfootsteps for your next girls night out enough. 🖤
Part 2 of my sister’s #PhillyBachelorette ✨ O Part 2 of my sister’s #PhillyBachelorette ✨

Our Saturday bachelorette day started off with breakfast at our @airbnb (@hot_bagels brought by @caitlyn22b were the star). We made some drinks and headed to @oldcityphilly for our surprise (to @linnytharp) @airbnbexperiences tour - “Hamilton - The Tour Where it Happens!”

Lindsay is a big @hamiltonmusical fan and this was an absolutely hysterical way for us to spend the afternoon. Our tour guide, Reid, brought along a speaker and played/rapped along to several Hamilton tracks on the streets of Philly. We learned a lot about the true Hamilton story and had just so, so much fun.

After the tour, we got a drink at @theploughphilly and bopped over to @luchacartelphilly for a seriously delicious dinner & margs. Our night event deserves its own post, so more on that in the final Bach post! 😉
