My Top Mother’s Day Picks (+ A Giveaway!)

Momma’s Day is one week away! Picking out a gift for Mother’s Day is always a fun one for me, because, in my opinion, you have the freedom to get mom something a little more creative than birthdays and Christmas. Of course, personalized gifts like custom name necklaces (collares personalizados) are always a thoughtful gift to give, and can be really beautiful statement pieces. Personally, I always find that an experience is the best thing to get because what could be better than spending more time with your mum doing something that you both enjoy? Even if it’s just going out for a meal, or maybe going to a spa? If you both have a wild side, why not go for a helicopter ride with a company like Jettly?

Making memories together is the best thing you can do, and you’ll cherish the time you spent together even more. Years later you will recollect these memories and that could bring a bunch of smiles and maybe a bit of happy tears on your cheeks. Moreover, if you have pictures of such memories taken you can as well make them into something like memory t-shirt quilts and that could make a heart-warming gift. As another option, if your mother has a pet that she loves from the core of her heart, you can take a picture of the pet and customize it into an item that you can give her. For instance, if you have a picture of your mother with her pet, you can think about getting her Personalized pet Photo gifts that she might adore.

If you’re a little pushed for time this year, however, don’t worry, you still have options. I’ve discovered that things I can pick up around the city or at craft fairs give my Mother’s Day gifts a really personal touch. Anything that you know your mum would love is perfect, so I was super excited when Philly boutique Occasionette invited me in to stop in and pick out my top Mother’s Day picks from their shop to share with you.

Get The Scoop On This Year’s Flavors of the Avenue

With so many events happening in this city every year, when one continues to come back around and can still impress, you know it’s a winner. I’ve attended East Passyunk’s standout spring food festival, Flavors of the Avenue, the past two years and loved every minute (and bite). Like last year, I was able to get a sample (or several) of the action before this year’s event, and I’m excited to share with you what you can look forward to later this month.

Philly Girl Winter Life

Happy Tuesday! I truly have not been properly dealing with the cold this month, so the below updates will sure be a whole lot of digital, and for that, I am sorry 😉 The cold can be too much if all you want is sunshine and a warm breeze washing over you. It can be hard in these months for people to deal with the freezing temperatures, especially if they do not have the money to heat their homes, it is lucky that now you can find cheaper heating suppliers like Bonded Oil as well as others, for example, so you can save on whatever supplies you need to heat your home, however, the heat doesn’t follow you as soon as you walk out of the house, so in that case, you’re on your own. In case you haven’t seen it yet – something pretty darn cool happened to me this month: I was featured on CBSPhilly! I think Kristina did a great job summing up the blog and I am so grateful to be featured. So with that . . . on to the rest of the updates on this Philly girl’s winter life!

Flavors Of The Avenue Is Back!

One of my favorite things about Philly is the access to all of the amazing festivals and markets. It seems like every weekend, there is an opportunity to visit a new neighborhood and discover lots of wonderful things in one place.

Hands down, one of the best festivals I went to last year was Flavors of the Avenue. Held on the beautiful East Passyunk Ave, the event brings together some of the best restaurants in the city for all all-you-can-eat, all-you-can-drink day of fun.

I attended the media preview earlier this month for a taste test of this year’s event. In addition to getting to hang with my buds Jade and Al, our group got to sample some grub from seven of the spots serving at Flavors. We visited POPE, Ippolito’s Seafood, Fond, Noord, Chiarella’s, Izumi and Marra’s. All of the food was fresh and delicious, but I can’t comment on Fond’s chicken liver mousse, because I’m lame and unadventurous and can’t make myself eat that. I’ve also realized I basically love everything I’ve ever tried from Ippolito’s and need to start going more often. I picked out three of my standouts from the night . . . (mouth. is. now. watering.)

Tuna tacos with spicy mayo from Ippolito's Seafood // Her Philly

Tuna tacos with spicy mayo from Ippolito’s Seafood (1300 Dickinson Street)

Pizza from Marra's on East Passyunk Avenue // Her Philly

Pizza from Marra’s (1734 East Passyunk Avenue)

Pork Gyoza from Izumi on East Passyunk Avenue // Her Philly

Pork Gyoza from Izumi (1601 East Passyunk Avenue)

Okay so it’s settled, you’re going, right? This year’s event takes place on Saturday, April 26th from 1-4pm. Tickets are available for $30 and, as you can see, it’s well worth it. I will be there with my parents, so come on out and hang with my crew. Hope to see you there! xx

{Chomp Chomp} East Passyunk’s Flavors of the Avenue

Last month, I explored a new area of the city with an event fit for any Philly foodie! Flavors of the Avenue is an annual food festival that takes place on East Passyunk Avenue, a young & thriving Philly neighborhood filled with awesome restaurants & shops. “Flavors” coincides with the Crafty Balboa craft show, so the day is a great glimpse into the what the neighborhood is all about.

Good Day Philadelphia

Happy Valentine’s Day, my friends! 🥰 I have b Happy Valentine’s Day, my friends! 🥰 I have been trying to do more things as a single lady that I’d like to do if I had a partner. And also recognize all the things that make me a good partner. I’m okay being solo today (well, with Putter of course 😉), but I deserve some love today, too. So here’s my love letter to me. 🖤

Emily, I love how you never go somewhere new without researching the best spots. I love how you’re not afraid of color and all. the. prints. I love how close you are with your family. I love how you’re pretty funny (if you do say so yourself). I love how you try new things, even when they scare you. I love how you truly have experienced growth as an adult since going to therapy. I love how you discovered “I’m doing the best I can” is really good enough. And I love how you are starting to learn what you deserve. Let’s get it. 🖤
