Things I Love on the Internet Right Now

Here we are, you guys, I’ve finally given in. The ‘ol link round up post has made its way to Her Philly. All the bloggers are doing it, and for that reason I’ve always thought, why do I too need to publish out links I’m into (even more than I normally do on Twitter)? After a good hard think (and getting some common sense knocked into me at the last PHLBloggers talk), I decided to give these babies a go. Truthfully, I’m not too bad at writing a stream of insane consciousness down, plus I love reading link round ups from other bloggers, so it just might be a good fit for me.

Before I posted this, I racked my brain for original titles to call this series, and really, I got nothing RN. So, it’s currently “Things I Love on the Internet Right Now,” (I also started this off with “Things I Like on the Internet,” but let’s be real, my feelings are normally way more extreme than “like”) but I’m open to suggestions. Happy to hear your feedback on amount of content you’re into in these types of posts, too. I hope you enjoy. xx

{Not That Kind of Girl} An Ode to Lena Dunham

This may (not) come as a shock to you, but I really, really love GIRLS (I am referring to the show, but I of course love all of you, too). But even more specifically than the show, I love its creator, Lena Dunham. Yes, I do understand that not everyone feels the same way I do. But for me, to be able to truly make fun of yourself and all of the other women out there who act the same way you do, while making us all laugh out loud at the same time, is quite the accomplishment. Lena is hysterical. She is incredibly smart. She is honest and unapologetic. And I really, really am a fan.

The GIRLS Are Back! {HBO’s #GIRLSnight}

It’s no secret that when I find a show I like, I get addicted. Ever since I first saw HBO’s GIRLS, I have been kind of obsessed. I love each of the female leads and laugh along with the unbelievably realistic jokes. I have been counting down the months until Season 3, so I was ecstatic when HBO invited me to the Philadelphia #GIRLSnight Premiere earlier this week. Girls is one of them shows that reaffirms your faith in good TV, especially in an era where a lot of the biggest shows are on Netflix. However, a large number of people are still left feeling as though they don’t get their money’s worth when it comes to cable TV since there is so much more content elsewhere. Although, not everybody realises that there are ways in which you can save money on your cable bill without having to get rid of it completely. These companies tend to keep these as secret as possible, but there is more information here you can check out if you like the idea of saving money.

Emily Tharp of Her Philly at HBO's GIRLS Season 3 Premiere in Philadelphia #GIRLSnightThe event was held at Prince Music Theatre (1412 Chestnut Street) – an absolutely gorgeous space. Before the screening, guests were treated to a reception, featuring music from GIRLS soundtrack favorites (well mine at least) like Robyn & Fun. Food choices at HBO's Philadelphia Premiere for GIRLSThe food at the event was delicious and the drinks were obviously bomb.com. In the photobooth at HBO'S #GIRLSnight Season 3 GIRLS Premiere // Her PhillyMy favorite part of the reception was the photobooth. It took some maneuvering, but after we got the hang of the placement, we were just part of the crew.Photobooth at HBO's Philadelphia GIRLS PremiereMy younger sister Lindsay accompanied me to the event. I credit her with getting me started on most TV shows I become obsessed with, so after she had to miss the Game of Thrones premiere last year because she was not 21 yet, she was obviously the best date I could have asked for for the night.GIRLS Season 3 Premiere with emojis and beers // Her PhillyAfter watching a live stream of the NYC premiere’s red carpet (the ‘girls’ all looked fab!), we settled down in the theatre (with beers!) for a back-to-back episode screening. Let me tell you – the first two episodes are a riot. My favorite line so far happens in the first five minutes, so just be on the lookout for that. I was so happy to see Hannah, Marnie, Shosh & Jessa together again and can’t wait for the rest of the season. I would recommend everyone watch this series as I absolutely love it! If you’re wondering can you get hbo NZ, and other parts of the world, the answer is yes! So not only will you be able to enjoy this great show, you’ll be able to enjoy many others too.

Most people think about Game of Thrones when they hear about HBO. In fact, it’s probably one of the most popular television programs to grace the network. So many of my friends have asked me where they can get cable in my area just so they can watch this boxset. Yes, that’s how big it is! They’ve heard about it, and are currently deciding where their loyalties lie amongst the characters, and who they like and dislike. So, I’m sure I’ll be hearing about their opinions very soon. But that’s the beauty of this network, there are so many things to watch that you’ll never get bored.

A big thank you to HBO for inviting me to this amazing night! If you’d like to get in on future GIRLS events, make sure you’re following them on their new Tumblr page – they have a fantastic social media presence & usually use their platforms to announce events like these.

Season 3 of GIRLS starts this Sunday at 10pm on HBO. Will you be watching?

My Favorite Female TV Characters

When I get obsessed with a TV show, I get really obsessed. Like, stalking-the-tumblr-hashtag-and-watching-YouTube-videos-of-“shipped”-couples-daily obsessed. When I was younger, my true TV loves were Lizzie McGuire & Degrassi. As I’ve grown up, my obsessions have changed . . . however one thing has remained constant: the presence of stylish, hysterical and powerful lead female characters. Call me crazy, but I’d rather watch these ladies kick some ass, both literally and figuratively, than Robb Stark or Chuck Bass any (well most) days. Check out my Top 5 TV heroines . . .

Blair Waldorf {Gossip Girl}

Blair has to be my one of my absolute favorite fictional characters of all time. Whether I’m admiring her latest headband & tights combo, sitting in awe over her verbal smackdowns, or watching her fall in & out of love with Chuck Bass, I can’t get enough.

Marnie, Shoshanna, Hannah & Jessa {GIRLS}

Favorite Women on TV: Marnie, Shoshanna, Hannah & Jessa in HBO's Girls, via Her Philly

Okay so this one is a little bit cheating, but I have never related more to a group of women on TV than these four GIRLS. Their man drama, friendship woes, and hysterically accurate real-life dilemmas (like when Hannah got the Q-Tip stuck in her ear and was laying on the floor calling her parents? That’s me.) make them an amazing quartet to watch week after week.

Daenerys Targaryen {Game of Thrones}

Favorite Women on TV: Khaleesi Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, via Her Philly

In case you’re new here, let me explain: I looooooove Khaleesi. There is nothing like a woman scorned finally coming into her own, ready to show all of Westeros how badass and intelligent she is. Plus, she’s pretty much the most beautiful bleach blonde woman I’ve ever seen and I want to own each & every one of her maxi dresses.

Naomi Clark {90210}

Favorite Women on TV: Naomi Clark in 90210, via Her Philly

90210 is definitely one of my guilty pleasures, and they have a lot of leading ladies. Even though Naomi is insanely wealthy & could have been a vapid character that’s defined by her money, they’ve done a lot with her. I am always rooting for the hardworking Naomi with her career, friendships & relationships.

Ja’mie King {Summer Heights High}

Favorite Women on TV: Ja'mie King in Summer Heights High, via Her Philly

If you have never seen Summer Heights High, you may be saying, is that a man? And the answer is yes. If you like to laugh, I highly encourage you to go find the first episode of the show online, and be prepared to LOL with Ja’mie’s insane quotes, hysterical stances on current events, and fabulous fashion sense.

Who are some of your favorite female TV characters? Also – any shows you recommend I become obsessed with next? xx

We adopted a puppy!!! 🖤 Meet Putter. He was born in January in Mississippi, and brought to PA with his mom & siblings for adoption by @tlcrescuepa.

I had been applying to rescue a pup for almost a year, so I am so thankful to @tlcrescuepa for giving us a shot. We brought Putter home 4/26/22. 🥰

Putter is fitting into our family so well, and we are loving watching him grow and learn new things. Jim & I are taking him to puppy class every Saturday and we are excited to learn more ourselves!

I could spam you with a million pictures but I created an Insta for the baby so I don’t go overboard here. 😂 You can follow @putterthepuppy to see more of our small boy. 🥹
The last night of @linnytharp’s Philly bachelore The last night of @linnytharp’s Philly bachelorette was such a joy it deserves its own post. 🚃

I have talked about the @foundingfootsteps tours for years. The owner, Tim, is such an asset to the Philly community, and I was excited to support his company for our ladies night out. 💃🏻

I booked us the Beer & Bands trolley tour. We (the 8 of us and 3 sweet younger gals) got picked up at Betsy Ross house with our BYO @highnoonsunsips and singing voices ready. 🎶

The trolley comes equipped with musicians and an amazing driver (shoutout Koser, Nate & Justin!) and takes you on a drive throughout the city, while the musicians play Britney Spears, BSB, & other assorted covers. Though we did make several suggestions to add more Taylor songs into rotation. 😉

The windows are open and we were loudly singing along, so early on, in our drunken happiness, we decided to start waving to people out the window. Once we started getting a few waves back, it became the sole focus of the night, singing and seeing how many waves we could secure (it was a 95% wave-back rate).

We laughed and sang and just had the most fun tour ever. The tour also stops at a brewery or two (hence that part of the name), we stopped at @victorytaproom_phl on ours, but we were mostly happy to be waving on the trolley. 😂

I can’t recommend @foundingfootsteps for your next girls night out enough. 🖤
Part 2 of my sister’s #PhillyBachelorette ✨ O Part 2 of my sister’s #PhillyBachelorette ✨

Our Saturday bachelorette day started off with breakfast at our @airbnb (@hot_bagels brought by @caitlyn22b were the star). We made some drinks and headed to @oldcityphilly for our surprise (to @linnytharp) @airbnbexperiences tour - “Hamilton - The Tour Where it Happens!”

Lindsay is a big @hamiltonmusical fan and this was an absolutely hysterical way for us to spend the afternoon. Our tour guide, Reid, brought along a speaker and played/rapped along to several Hamilton tracks on the streets of Philly. We learned a lot about the true Hamilton story and had just so, so much fun.

After the tour, we got a drink at @theploughphilly and bopped over to @luchacartelphilly for a seriously delicious dinner & margs. Our night event deserves its own post, so more on that in the final Bach post! 😉
