#HBONight is Coming . . .

OH. MAN. YOU. GUYS. Do I have something so exciting to share with you? YESSSSS. Sure do.

If you have been reading for a bit, you know I’m a little bit obsessed with HBO. You totally need to get hbo streaming if you haven’t already — even if you’re outside the US! You can just use a VPN to change your location šŸ˜‰ You might be wondering why I’m talking about HBO so much and it’s because the new GOT season is nearly here! I LOVE Game of Thrones. It’s not that I love really any other show that falls into the “fantasy” genre, it’s just pretty much the most addictive TV show ever (besides Shark Tank, obviously). Back in 2013, when I was just a baby blogger, the fantastic team at HBO invited me to the Season 3 Premiere Event in Philadelphia. And just what is a “Philadelphia premiere,” you may ask?

Well (in what you would obviously expect from a company like HBO), in addition to their official show premiere events, HBO holds fantastic regional premiere parties across the country in preparation for some of their seasons. Those of you who have not yet seen any of their great TV shows, head to the Eatel Official Website to access premium channels on your TV. The events come complete with photo booths, props, great drinks, an EARLY LOOK (yep) at the first episode of the season. I’ve been lucky enough to be invited back for the GoT Season 4 Event, as well as the GIRLS Season 3 Party, and all were seriously a blast. It’s pretty much a dream for a hardcore HBO fan, as I know many of you are. So yeah, now’s the exciting part.

Philly Girl Summer Life {2014}

I have really been loving this summer. The sunshine makes me so happy. I don’t think I have done this season’s update post (see last summer), where I just get to talk about all of the fun and random things going on in my life . . . so here we are.

The Single Life
We all know I’m single (because it seems like I announce it every chance I get), but I don’t let that stop me from attending the things I want in the city. Last week, I posted a guest blog for DĆ®ner en Blanc Philadelphia all about attending Diner en Blanc as a single woman. Check it.

#GoTPremierePHI {Game of Thrones Season 4 Philadelphia Premiere}

We all know I love Game of Thrones, a lot. Last year, I was lucky enough to be invited to the Season 3 #WesterosVIP Premiere for sneak peek of the season’s first episode and some other GoT fun. This year, HBO had me back for Season 4’s premiere – an entire two and a half weeks before the official air date! I was loving life. As an avid watcher of excellent TV shows you can imagine I was absolutely delighted. Game of Thrones is one of the shows that have ensured streaming providers like Netflix do not pose a real threat to television. You can click here for the statistics if you would like further reassurances that the future of cable tv is secure and bright.

New Game of Thrones Targaryen beerOmmegang House Targaryen Fire and Blood beer #GoTPremierePHIMy sister & I (my loyal HBO party guest) started off with some grub & beer. Like any GoT obsessed fan, I was so excited to try Brewery Ommegang’s new Fire and Blood beer. This is the brewery’s third beer in collaboration with Game of Thrones, and while it wasn’t something I’d typically go for, I really enjoyed it. The bottles have three different labels, one for each of Daenerys’ dragons. The beer will be released March 31st in the Philadelphia area.Robb Stark's sword at the GOT Premiere Daenerys and Khal Drogo figurinesThe reception also held some fun pieces of memorabilia on display, like a replica of Robb Stark’s sword and the Pop! Figurines. Philadelphia Game of Thrones Season 4 Premiere Game of Thrones House Shirt The coolest addition to this year’s event was the t-shirt station. Each guest got to select their own name to put on a ‘House’ shirt, which then got printed on the spot. I debated getting something other than my last name (House Her Philly?!), but in the end opted with the classic choice. I wore my shirt to bed three nights in a row. Sorry I’m not sorry.

Emily Tharp of Her Philly at the Game of Thrones Season 4 Premiere in Philadelphia#GoTPremierePHI Philadelphia Game of Thrones Season 4 PremiereLindsay & I had great seats for the GIRLS premiere earlier this year at the same venue – the Prince Music Theatre (1412 Chestnut Street) – so we knew we had to get the same prime seating. The red carpet from the official premiere was being played above the entrance to the theatre, so we hung out, saw some of our favorites (Ser Davos Seaworth and Samwell Tarly anyone?) and bopped right in. Our seats were perfect, and then . . . it was time for the show (!!!).

The episode was truly spectacular. They did not check in with every main character, but most were covered. I will just say – I need this to be Sansa’s season. I obviously have a very special place in my heart for the Khaleesi, but I just love me some Sansa. I am so excited to see what the rest of the season holds, especially for characters like Jaime Lannister, Jon Snow & Arya Stark.

Thank you again to HBO for having me. If you’re a GoT obsessed fan like I am, what are you hoping for out of this season?

The GIRLS Are Back! {HBO’s #GIRLSnight}

It’s no secret that when I find a show I like, I get addicted. Ever since I first saw HBO’s GIRLS, I have been kind of obsessed. I love each of the female leads and laugh along with the unbelievably realistic jokes. I have been counting down the months until Season 3, so I was ecstatic when HBO invited me to the Philadelphia #GIRLSnight Premiere earlier this week. Girls is one of them shows that reaffirms your faith in good TV, especially in an era where a lot of the biggest shows are on Netflix. However, a large number of people are still left feeling as though they don’t get their money’s worth when it comes to cable TV since there is so much more content elsewhere. Although, not everybody realises that there are ways in which you can save money on your cable bill without having to get rid of it completely. These companies tend to keep these as secret as possible, but there is more information here you can check out if you like the idea of saving money.

Emily Tharp of Her Philly at HBO's GIRLS Season 3 Premiere in Philadelphia #GIRLSnightThe event was held at Prince Music Theatre (1412 Chestnut Street) – an absolutely gorgeous space. Before the screening, guests were treated to a reception, featuring music from GIRLS soundtrack favorites (well mine at least) like Robyn & Fun. Food choices at HBO's Philadelphia Premiere for GIRLSThe food at the event was delicious and the drinks were obviously bomb.com. In the photobooth at HBO'S #GIRLSnight Season 3 GIRLS Premiere // Her PhillyMy favorite part of the reception was the photobooth. It took some maneuvering, but after we got the hang of the placement, we were just part of the crew.Photobooth at HBO's Philadelphia GIRLS PremiereMy younger sister Lindsay accompanied me to the event. I credit her with getting me started on most TV shows I become obsessed with, so after she had to miss the Game of Thrones premiere last year because she was not 21 yet, she was obviously the best date I could have asked for for the night.GIRLS Season 3 Premiere with emojis and beers // Her PhillyAfter watching a live stream of the NYC premiere’s red carpet (the ‘girls’ all looked fab!), we settled down in the theatre (with beers!) for a back-to-back episode screening. Let me tell you – the first two episodes are a riot. My favorite line so far happens in the first five minutes, so just be on the lookout for that. I was so happy to see Hannah, Marnie, Shosh & Jessa together again and can’t wait for the rest of the season. I would recommend everyone watch this series as I absolutely love it! If you’re wondering can you get hbo NZ, and other parts of the world, the answer is yes! So not only will you be able to enjoy this great show, you’ll be able to enjoy many others too.

Most people think about Game of Thrones when they hear about HBO. In fact, it’s probably one of the most popular television programs to grace the network. So many of my friends have asked me where they can get cable in my area just so they can watch this boxset. Yes, that’s how big it is! They’ve heard about it, and are currently deciding where their loyalties lie amongst the characters, and who they like and dislike. So, I’m sure I’ll be hearing about their opinions very soon. But that’s the beauty of this network, there are so many things to watch that you’ll never get bored.

A big thank you to HBO for inviting me to this amazing night! If you’d like to get in on future GIRLS events, make sure you’re following them on their new Tumblr page – they have a fantastic social media presence & usually use their platforms to announce events like these.

Season 3 of GIRLS starts this Sunday at 10pm on HBO. Will you be watching?

My Favorite Female TV Characters

When I get obsessed with a TV show, I get really obsessed. Like, stalking-the-tumblr-hashtag-and-watching-YouTube-videos-of-“shipped”-couples-daily obsessed. When I was younger, my true TV loves were Lizzie McGuire & Degrassi. As I’ve grown up, my obsessions have changed . . . however one thing has remained constant: the presence of stylish, hysterical and powerful lead female characters. Call me crazy, but I’d rather watch these ladies kick some ass, both literally and figuratively, than Robb Stark or Chuck Bass any (well most) days. Check out my Top 5 TV heroines . . .

Blair Waldorf {Gossip Girl}

Favorite Women on TV: Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl, via Her Philly

Image via

Blair has to be my one of my absolute favorite fictional characters of all time. Whether I’m admiring her latest headband & tights combo, sitting in awe over her verbal smackdowns, or watching her fall in & out of love with Chuck Bass, I can’t get enough.

Marnie, Shoshanna, Hannah & Jessa {GIRLS}

Favorite Women on TV: Marnie, Shoshanna, Hannah & Jessa in HBO's Girls, via Her Philly

Image via

Okay so this one is a little bit cheating, but I have never related more to a group of women on TV than these four GIRLS. Their man drama, friendship woes, and hysterically accurate real-life dilemmas (like when Hannah got the Q-Tip stuck in her ear and was laying on the floor calling her parents? That’s me.) make them an amazing quartet to watch week after week.

Daenerys Targaryen {Game of Thrones}

Favorite Women on TV: Khaleesi Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, via Her Philly

In case you’re new here, let me explain: I looooooove Khaleesi. There is nothing like a woman scorned finally coming into her own, ready to show all of Westeros how badass and intelligent she is. Plus, she’s pretty much the most beautiful bleach blonde woman I’ve ever seen and I want to own each & every one of her maxi dresses.

Naomi Clark {90210}

Favorite Women on TV: Naomi Clark in 90210, via Her Philly

Image via

90210 is definitely one of my guilty pleasures, and they have a lot of leading ladies. Even though Naomi is insanely wealthy & could have been a vapid character that’s defined by her money, they’ve done a lot with her. I am always rooting for the hardworking Naomi with her career, friendships & relationships.

Ja’mie King {Summer Heights High}

Favorite Women on TV: Ja'mie King in Summer Heights High, via Her Philly

If you have never seen Summer Heights High, you may be saying, is that a man? And the answer is yes. If you like to laugh, I highly encourage you to go find the first episode of the show online, and be prepared to LOL with Ja’mie’s insane quotes, hysterical stances on current events, and fabulous fashion sense.

Who are some of your favorite female TV characters? Also – any shows you recommend I become obsessed with next? xx

Talk Dothraki To Me {My Game of Thrones Obsession}

I remember the day my sister introduced me to HBO’s Game of Thrones. It was a Sunday, and I watched six episodes that day – that’s six hours of falling in true love. I have been obsessed ever since.

On Friday, HBO released the trailer for Season 3. It looks amazing, and I am counting down the days until I get to see Khaleesi and the crew back in action.

I’ve been loving the song that’s played in the first few seconds. Here it is, in case you’re loving it too.

Do you watch Game of Thrones? If so, please, please comment, so we can talk about it for hours on end together šŸ™‚ If not, what TV show do you get your craziest over?
